I was a Sole Trader, had my own double glazing repair business, and it was very successful. I found there were too many outside interventions from officialdom, that were hindering my right to work. One was a new scheme to make working on building sites more difficult. It involves paying to go on a course to make site safety a priority. I’d been working on and off sites since 1980, and never had any problems. Later in the early days of this century, I’d have to go on an induction which would take around 2 to 3 hours. For every site I worked on. Then there was waste transfer licence for dumping my old glass and other things into a skip that I’d already paid for. I had to pay just because I was taking it from a house to a skip. The last job I did was in 2019. I’d never bother again. I’m 62 now, and cannot be arsed to work anymore.
